Funtions

Directorate of Transport is responsible for the execution and implementation of:

1. Administration of Directorate of Transport Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, PTA, District RTAs, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Road Transport Board
2. Inspection & Certification of road worthy vehicles.
3. Service matter except those entrusted to the Establishment and Administration Department.
4. Formulation of Transport Policy & planning
5. Research & Development (R & D).
6. Data Collection:

• Vehicle Registration Data.
• Route permits statistics.
• Accident Data.
• Traffic Courts.
• Origin-Destination Studies.

7. Assistance and Legislation:

• Updating of Highway Code.
• Review of Traffic Laws.
• Review of Traffic Safety Provisions.
• Review of Motor Vehicle Laws Rules.

8. Directorate of Transport Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, PTA, District RTAs & Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Road Transport Board.
9. Coordination with other, Government. Departments Agencies both in public and private sectors.
10. Monitoring and Evaluation of Transport related projects.
11. Issuance of Road Permits for stage carriages and contract carriages.
12. Route Permits, Fare/Freights, matters relating to Traffic speeds, loading, parking and halting places, exemption cases of vehicles under Motor Vehicle Ordinance and Rules Grouping of Stage Carriages.
13. Payment of compensation in accident cases of Public private Sectors and allied matters.
14. Chapter VII and VIII of Motor Vehicles Act, 1939.
15. Policy regarding student’s concession and Nationalization & Privatization of Road Transport.
16. Maintenance/Management of Public Bus Stand throughout the Province.
17. Classification of routes for public service vehicles.
18. Settlement of terms and conditions for public service vehicles.
19. Settlement of disputes among the District Regional Transport Authorities.
20. Operation of Pak-Afghan Bus Service.
21. Operation of Mass Transit system in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
22. Attract Private investment in Transport Sector.
